The approach
I work at the point where research becomes direction.
Most of my work involves helping a team see something they could not see clearly before, then deciding what to do about it.
Background
I tend to start by looking at the whole before narrowing to the part.
My graduate training in strategic foresight and systems thinking changed how I read problems. Before that, I worked as a product designer, solving at the surface level, getting things shipped. The foresight training introduced a different question: not what to build, but what conditions are producing this problem, and what happens if they shift.
That combination of design experience plus systems-level analysis is what I bring to most engagements. On the product side it means I can run discovery, frame requirements, and work directly with engineering. On the research side it means I can scan environments, map stakeholder systems, and frame implications for planning. The projects I have found most useful sit at that boundary.
That is not a slow way of working. It is a way of avoiding the cost of solving the wrong problem.
Currently
I work independently with a small number of clients each year on research, product strategy, and facilitation. Based in Toronto, available remotely and for on-site sessions when it makes sense.
